Turmeric as an antiseptic


















While many of us are aware of the numerous benefits of this deep, exotic yellow spice, few incorporate  turmeric  in our daily use, other than sprinkling a little of it in our daal and subzi.  Turmeric ,  a member of the ginger family, has been used for healing by Ayurvedic means, since time immemorial.  Turmeric  has anti-inflammatory properties, and is an  good antiseptic. Turmeric has secured a important place in ayurved because of its antiseptic properties. Turmeric is applied to any minor wound or abrasion as a first aid. It also has some analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect. A poultice prepared from turmeric powder with few other medicinal herbs is applied to sprained and/or swollen body part. A luke warm paste of similar group of medicines is a popular anti-inflammatory paste, used externally.
The antiseptic properties of turmeric have been used age old over cuts, wounds and injuries to heal them faster. Even throat infections and cough colds can be mitigated as well as cured if gargled with turmeric water. Turmeric water is prepared by boiling a pinch of tea leaves along with half a teaspoon of turmeric along with a pinch of salt in boiling water.

           Turmeric is antiseptic in nature and well- known for healing broken bones and sprains. It aids digestion and is good for the eyes. Turmeric is an excellent blood purifier and an essential cosmetic aid.
         A paste of turmeric powder and warm mustard oil applied locally on swellings and sprained joints reduces inflammation and soothes pain. Drinking hot milk mixed with turmeric powder works like a natural healing agent. When combined with cauliflower it has shown to prevent prostate cancer.
